Encrypt Link
Turn a URL into encrypted text that the matching Decrypt Link tool can open
Encrypt Link turns the URL text into ciphertext for the matching Decrypt Link tool. The output is text, not a clickable destination, and it does not change the destination site's own access controls.
- Paste the URL you want to protect.
- Enter a passphrase (or generate one).
- Test the encrypted value in Decrypt Link, then share it separately from the passphrase.
The full URL string is encrypted with your passphrase. This hides the destination from anyone who does not have the passphrase, but it does not change the access controls of the destination itself.
- Wrong passphrase or missing characters.
- Extra whitespace or line breaks added by chat apps.
- Truncated links or characters replaced by auto-formatting.
Use Encrypt Link when you need to send a URL without leaving the destination in plain text in that channel. Anyone who obtains the ciphertext and passphrase can recover it. For general text, use the Encrypt Tool.
URL encoding makes a link safe to transmit by escaping characters. Encryption hides the destination entirely. If you only need to make a URL safe for transport, use the URL Encoding and Decoding Guide.
Open the Decrypt Link tool and enter the encrypted link and the same passphrase used to encrypt it.
